Hay un nuevo discurso de la interculturalidad en América Latina, resultado principalmente de las movilizaciones y demandas indígenas de los años 90 y las recientes reformas constitucionales y educativas que reconocen el carácter nacional pluriétnico y pluricultural. La pregunta crítica que examina este ensayo es hasta qué punto este nuevo discurso ya oficializado en varios países de la región, representa un cambio real que toma en cuenta la jerarquía y la hegemonía histórica, o más bien significa una nueva estrategia de dominación cultural que tolere, controle y desmovilice la diferencia. Por medio de una discusión sobre los antecedentes educativos, los planteos políticos indígenas y el lenguaje y propósito de las recientes reformas, intenta contribuir a la búsqueda por comprender e implementar la interculturalidad y construir naciones plurales.

The mobilizations and demands of the indigenous population during the nineties and the recent constitutional and educatio-nal reforms which recognize pluriethnicity and pluriculturalism within the Nation-State, have given rise to a new discourse of interculturalism in Latin America. The critical question which is examined in this article is whether this new posture, alrea-dy officialized in several countries of the region, represents a significant change or if, on the contrary, it simply reveals a new strategy of cultural domination which to-lerates, controls and demobilizes the difference. On the basis of a revision of educative antecedents, the political proposals of the indigenous population and the language and purpose of recent reforms, the author aims to contribute to an understanding and implementation of interculturalism and the building of a plural nationality.
