Le modèle transformationnel est-il opératoire pour l�enseignement du français au cycle moyen ?

    The transformational model is used to study the relative clause in the textbooks of the college. The adopted approach consists in splitting a complex sentence into two simple ones and then to build a complex sentence using two simple ones. This approach has several disadvantages :The emphasis is put on the anaphoric function of the relative pronoun at the expense of its subordinating function; the referential interpretation of the relative is not clearly shown in relation to the antecedent; the student can hardly distinguish the different functions of the relative pronoun; the semantic contribution of the relative to the main clause does not appear; the transformational mechanical drills are not relevant. Noting that this approach aims more at teaching knowledge about language and not language itself, we recommend leaving the referential model and adopting an approach based on the communicative approaches. Thus, instead of an artificial approach on the relative based on a theory which remains to be proved, we will rather study its role in the qualification in which it occurs naturally and spontaneously.

    Le modèle transformationnel est utilisé pour l�étude de la proposition relative dans les manuels du moyen. Dans la démarche suivie pour la décomposition-reconstruction d�une phrase complexe, on met l�accent sur la fonction anaphorique du pronom relatif, dont l�interprétation référentielle n�est pas clairement mise en rapport avec l�antécédent, aux dépens de sa fonction de subordonnant. En outre, l�apport sémantique de la relative à la principale n�apparaît pas sans oublier que les exercices mécaniques de transformation ne sont pas pertinents. Cette manière de procéder, basée ce modèle référentiel et une approche artificielle de la relative fondée sur une théorie qui reste à démontrer, et qui vise davantage à enseigner un savoir sur la langue que la langue elle-même est à abandonner pour une démarche fondée sur les approches communicatives. Ainsi, au lieu d�une on étudiera plutôt son rôle dans la qualification où elle intervient de manière naturelle et spontanée.
