This paper deals with the evaluatioh of the preservation interest of two Quaternary loca lites with aeolian deposits, Barranco de los Encantados and Cantera Melián, from the Fuerteventura Island (Canary Islands). Their scientific, social and cultural importance has been evaluated. It is noteworthy to signify that thay are the type localities of a new terrestrial gastropod species belonging to genus Cochlicella. Due to mining activities are destroying both deposits, their inclusion in the maximum level of legal protection has been proposed (Paleontological Zone according to 4/7999 law on Canarian Historical Heritage).
