  Nowadays, the rational use of the water begins to do part or the human being day by day. The degradation in the quality of the rivers begins to worry the whole society. The study of the processes that happen in a body of water, be them or origin chemical or biological, and the great consumption or fresh water, they have been �target� of great discussions. In that work, we intend to discuss some relative aspects to the water, through bibliographical rising about your characteristics and readiness. To accomplish abalyses physics, chemistry and microbiology, as well as the quality or the water or Rio or Carmo in the municipal district of Ituverava-SP. This Rio is the source supplying of drinking water and also the source of dejections, since it is the receiver of sewer of the city. The accomplished analyses could prove the high pollution rates in the darin and the efficiency in the treatment of the drinking water that is distributed by the city. However, the analyses show the need of changes, so that in a close future, let us can usufruct of all the benefits that the east and springs provide us.

  Atualmente, o uso racional da água começa a fazer parte do dia-a-dia do ser humano. A degradação na qualidade dos rios começa a preocupar toda a sociedade. O estudo dos processos que ocorrem num corpo d � água, sejam eles de origem química ou biológica, e o grande consumo de água doce, têm sido �alvo� de grandes discussões. Neste trabalho, propomo-nos discutir alguns aspectos relativos à água, através de um levantamento bibliográfico sobre suas características e disponibilidade. Realizar análises físicas, químicas e microbiológicas, assim como determinar a qualidade da água do Rio do Carmo no município de Ituverava-SP.

  Este Rio é a fonte abastecedora de água potável e também o depósito de dejetos, já que é o receptor de esgoto da cidade. As análises realizadas puderam comprovar as elevadas taxas de poluição no afluente e a eficiência no tratamento da água potável que é distituída pela cidade. Contudo, as análises mostram a necessidade de mudanças para que, num futuro próximo, possamos usufruir de todos os benefícios que as nascentes e mananciais nos proporcionam.
