    La aplicación de las nuevas Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación (TIC) en las actividades de docencia e investigación en ciencias sociales aplicadas, destacan por el hecho de permitir acelerar y automatizar los procesos de recuperación, ordenación y representación de compleja y abundante información. Pero, si por un lado ofrecen a los estudiosos más agilidad, más cantidad y más tiempo para analizar y representar contenidos, por otro propician la aparición de prácticas de investigación alejadas de los verdaderos propósitos científicos.

    Caracterizadas por un uso desmedido de información, el descuido con las herramientas gráficas y un repertorio comparativo sin criterio, estas prácticas tienen un efecto negativo para el estudio de la ciudad y del urbanismo.

    El debate sobre la utilización de las nuevas TIC debería, entre otras cosas, tratar de impedir que las verdaderas razones y objetivos que impulsan los estudios sobre la ciudad pasen a un plano secundario mientras detalles estadísticos sin importancia ganen protagonismo.

    The application of new TIC (Technologies of the Information and Communication) in the activities of education and research in applied social sciences, result in speed and automatized processes of recovery, ordinance and representation of complex and great amounts of information. They make possible to the investigators more agility and more time to think and to analyze more information, but also they influence the appearance of customs research that not prioritize the basic objectives that characterize this area of study. We find cases characterized for the enormous use of information, the careless use of the graphical tools and a comparative repertoire without criterion that causes a special damage when the city is the inquiry object. The debate on the use of the new TIC will have, among others things, to care that the reasons and the objectives of our urban studies do not pass to a secondary condition.
