The study of several sections on platform limestones of Aptian-Albian age in SE Spain (Alicante province) has pointed out a rich variety of facies. The analysis of facies and their relationships has led us to reconstruct an ideal platform; this platform was divided into an inner, low-energy, muddy, rudists dominated lagoon, and an outer platform, with moderate energy, where bioclastic and marly sedimentation dominated, with moderate development of patch reefs; these two domains were separated by a high energy shallow barrier, occupied by corals-stromatoporoids reefs, and oolitic sandstones
