Las formas de ser y costumbres de los hombres y mujeres en una sociedad revelan aspectos referenciales de su mentalidad y de cómo el ambiente físico y cultural puede terminar por influir y definir varias de sus manifestaciones. A este respecto, en este trabajo se describen y analizan las visiones que testigos presenciales, preferentemente europeos, al llegar de visita o simplemente de paso por el país, observaron y valoraron de las mujeres chilenas en su desenvolvimiento social.

The habits and the customs of men and women in a society reveal aspects of their ways of thought and how their physical and cultural environment can eventually end up influencing and defining different aspects of it. As regards this, in this article the impressions that different witnesses, preferably European, who visited or simply passed through the country, had of the Chilean women in their social development are described and analyzed.
