Resumen de ¿Es relevante la verdad para la teoría política?: (un diálogo en torno a la democracia pragmatista)

El liberalismo, en esencia, consiste en relegar el pluralismo y trasladarlo ala esfera privada para asegurar el consenso en la esfera pública. De estemodo, todas las cuestiones controvertidas (por antonomasia, la discusiónen torno a la verdad) son eliminadas de la agenda para crear las condicionesde un consenso “racional”. En consecuencia, el reino de la política setransforma en un terreno en el cual los individuos, despojados de suspasiones y creencias más fundamentales, aceptan someterse a acuerdosque consideran (o se les imponen) como neutrales. Es así como niega elliberalismo la dimensión de lo político (esto es, de lo polemos, lo dinámico,lo conflictivo), con el fin de reconducirlo al ámbito de la política (la polis,el lugar de la reconciliación del conflicto). El propósito de este trabajo esanalizar y discutir a fondo alguno de los principales argumentos que sehan ofrecido con el fin de justificar estar estrategia liberal (básicamenteen autores como Rorty o Rawls). Mi conclusión será mostrar cómo es queesta estrategia liberal dista mucho de no ser problemática.

The essence of liberalism is the relegation of pluralism to the privatesphere in order to ensure consensus in the public sphere. In this way, allcontroversial issues (most notably, the debate on truth) are removed fromthe agenda to create the conditions for a “rational” consensus.Accordingly, the realm of politics becomes an arena in which individuals,stripped of their most fundamental beliefs and passions, show theiragreement with arrangements which they consider to be (or are imposedon them as) neutral. Thus, liberalism denies the political dimension (ie,the polemos, the dynamic, the conflictive) and brings it instead to therealm of politics (the polis, the place of reconciliation of the conflict).The aim of this paper is to analyze and discuss in depth some of the main arguments that have been offered in order to justify such liberal strategy(basically in authors such as Rorty and Rawls). My conclusion will showthat this liberal strategy is far from being unproblematic.Keywords: Democracy, Liberalism, Truth, PragmatismI.
