Resumen de Renovación y progreso de la arquitectura en Bilbao. La década prodigiosa (1850-1860)

  La década central del siglo XIX se configura como un momento crucial para el futuro de la ciudad de Bilbao desde el punto de vista socioeconómico. La burguesía urbana se convierte en clase dominante y la ciudad debe adaptar sus estructuras a estas nuevas circunstancias. El artículo muestra las condiciones particulares de Bilbao en esta década, centradas en el desarrollo de dos elementos fundamentales: la redacción de las primeras ordenanzas modernas y la figura del arquitecto municipal. Uno de los elementos mas significativos del periodo es la configuración de una nueva tipología de vivienda burguesa que posteriormente se exportará al Ensanche.

  The decade of the 50´s of the 19th century is very important from the point of view of the socioeconomic and political modernization. In the case of the Spanish cities, the ensanches (city expansions) characterize the period and they suppose a necessary adjustment of the urban structures to new needs. Bilbao lives also a moment of modernization especially in the area of the architecture of the housing and particularly of the bourgeois housing that sees now the birth of a new typology. This typology will be the characteristic of his hull ancient and it will be exported to the widening in the last quarter of the 19th century and the first decades of the XX.
