Resumen de Urban parks and addiction

Behnaz Aminzadeh, Dokhi Afshar

  • This study seeks to develop an understanding of the relationship between the design of urban parks and addiction in Tehran. The aim of the study is to recognize the role of design in the behavioural patterns of park users, especially the addicts, and to propose design patterns to improve the physical quality of parks. The method is based on analysing physical spaces by observing and recording the behaviour of the group under study in two selected urban parks. The proposed design patterns are then presented. In contrast to those existing approaches resulting in extreme changes in landscaping, these patterns are focused on "adaptability" and "flexibility" to afford different, stable patterns of behaviour, increase the possibility of social behaviours and thus decrease anti-social ones.
