  • Resumen
    • San Francisco Boulevard, in Sacremento, California, comes as a surprise: a residential street in the form of a grand boulevard, built at a modest scale in a modest neighbourhood. Why is it here? Are the soci-economic dynamics of this street different from those of the surrounding neighbourhood? This paper is about a particular street, but it is as much about the research: the ability to find "objective" information that provides answers to questions about the nature of a small urban area. It is about sources of historic information, about errors in information and about being misled by "hard data". It is about the importance of informal contacts and interviews and in going beyond data. In the end, the paper speaks to the veracity of sensitive observation and modest, maybe obvious conclusions.
