According to the response of the patients to AHSCT, a 100% reduction in the daily insulin dose (insulin free) was defined as a complete remission (CR). In a Finland study, low serum C-peptide concentrations, a high requirement of exogenous insulin, a low prevalence of remission, and high glycated hemoglobin concentrations were observed during the follow-up period in the group of probands having DKA at diagnosis of type 1 diabetes (24).
