Assia Djebar's last novel, Vaste est la prison, occasioned by the murder of a bilingual Algerian playwright working in arable, pursues a long analysis about personal and national languages, and renews it through the introduction of Berber next to Arabic as another linguistic inheritance through the women, confronted with French, language of space, accessible through the father.
