L'incarnation de l'imaginaire dans "L'Espoir et Sierra de Teruel" d'André Malraux

    From 1936 till 1939, André Malraux dedicated himself almost completely in the defense of the Spanish Republic in danger. This experience brings him to write a novel, L�Espoir that is the history of the fi rst months of the squadron España of which he was the leader. Thanks to the support of the Spanish government in exile, Malraux also realizes a propaganda fi lm, Sierra de Teruel, to convince the foreign democracies to fi ght against Franco and the fascism. The movie born from the will to adapt one of the main episodes of the third part of its novel, but the fi lm is more than this: it�s a new creation through the use of a different language. The objective of this article is to identify, through a comparison between the novel and the movie, the parts which were transposed from a creation to the other and to understand which characters of the novel maintained or lost a focal role in the passage from the novel to the movie.

    De 1936 à 1939, André Malraux se dédia presque complètement à la défense de la République espagnole en danger. Cette expérience le poussa à écrire un roman, L�Espoir, qui raconte les premiers mois de l�escadrille España dont il était le commandant. Grâce au soutien du gouvernement espagnol en exil, Malraux réalise aussi un fi lm de propagande, Sierra de Teruel, afi n de convaincre les démocraties étrangères à lutter contre Franco et le fascisme. Le fi lm naît de la volonté d�adapter un des épisodes principaux de la troisième partie son roman, mais Malraux en fait une création nouvelle à travers l�utilisation d�un langage différent, l�image cinématographique. L�objectif de cet article est celui d�identifi er, à travers une comparaison entre le roman et le fi lm les noyaux narratifs qui ont été transposés d�une création à l�autre et de comprendre quels personnages tirés du roman ont maintenu ou perdu un rôle focal dans le passage du roman au film.
