Este artículo tiene un doble objetivo. El primero, ofrecer una panorámica general sobre el monasterio cisterciense de Santa María de Armenteira, situado en el sudoeste gallego. El segundo, analizar su importancia económica para demostrar que los monjes de este cenobio, al igual que otros monasterios, consiguieron salvaguardar su institución a lo largo del período moderno gracias, por supuesto, a la diversidad y solidez de sus bases económicas, pero también a una administración en manos de los propios religiosos con funciones muy bien definidas y competencias delimitadas que le permitieron vivir sin grandes agobios hasta que se inició la crisis de fines del Antiguo Régimen, en el último tercio del siglo XVIII.

This article has a twofold aim. On the one hand, it gives a general view of the Santa María de Armenteira Cistercian Monastery, located in the southwest Galician. On the other, analyze its economic importance to demonstrate that the monks of this monastery, as well as other monasteries, managed to safeguard your institution throughout the modern period because, of course, diversity and robustness of its economic foundations, but also an administration in the hands of the religious themselves with well-defined roles and responsibilities defined that allowed live without great burdens until the crisis began late Ancien Regime in the last third of the eighteenth century.
