In the last ten years Open Access has gained manifold successes and a constant growth. However OA stakeholders are worried about sustainability of Open Access projects. The paper deals with the problems of costs and benefits of Open Access publications (Gold Road) and repositories (Green Road). Different business models of OA journals are examined.
Costs and benefits of Open Access should be evaluated in the long term period. The author also discusses the value proposiltion of Open Access journals and repositories. According to the author this value proposition is connected to the level of innovation proposed by OA journals and repositories in the scholarly communication system.
