    San Millán o San Emiliano, santo de la Hispania visigoda de los siglos V y VI. Atendiendo a lo comunicado por sus biógrafos, debió nacer hacia el 474 en el paraje riojano de Vergegio, identificado con el actual Berceo. Allí debieron transcurrir sus primeros años de vida como sencillo pastor, mientras recibía formación religiosa de manos del eremita Félix de Bilibio. Su influencia debió de ser determinante para la futura vocación eremítica del propio Millán, habitando, durante cerca de cuarenta años, un oratorio natural en el monte Distercio. Como su fama de hombre santo se extendió rápidamente, y teniendo en cuenta el recelo con el que anacoretas y eremitas eran contemplados por la jerarquía eclesiástica del momento, para regularizar su situación fue conminado a ordenarse sacerdote por el obispo Didimio de Tarazona. Sólo años después, casi al final de su vida, residirá como monje en un monasterio, donde murió en noviembre de 574, algo más de cien años después de su nacimiento.

    Saint Millan or Saint Emiliano was the saint of Visigothic Spain in the 5th and 6th centuries.

    Following the statement of his biographers, he must have been born in 474 in Vergegio, in La Rioja, identified with current Berceo. This is the place where he spent his early years as a humble shepherd and where he received religious training at the hands of the hermit Felix Bilibio. His influence must have been decisive for Millan's future vocation as a hermit, living for nearly forty years in a natural oratory at Distercio Mount. As his fame as a holy man spread rapidly, and given the suspicion with which anchorites and hermits met by the hierarchy of the Church, he was asked to be ordained as a priest to regularize his situation by the Bishop Didimio of Tarazona. Only some years later, near the end of his life, he will live as a monk in a monastery, where he died in November 574, just over one hundred years after his birth.
