    This article is the result of ethno-historical research which refers to the arrival of the first Chinese immigrants to Costa Rica in 1855. The phenomenon is studied within the context of globalization which results from migrational movements since the 19th century, and is essentially approached from two particular directions: the problems of the native and recipient countries. This article also serves as labor-tribute, to commemorate the 155th anniversary of the arrival of the first Chinese immigrants, as it allows the reader to understand and observe their complex history and outstanding work as pioneers and suppliers of important resources for the country. In this way, their arrival should be justified not only by its demographic implications but also by their contribution to and collaboration in various tasks of national life. In light of the above, an approximated historical analysis is presented that will allow the reader to abandon predominant and partial historiographic visions and myths that have developed around this subject.

    Este artículo es el resultado de la investigación etnohistórica referida a la llegada de los primeros inmigrantes chinos a Costa Rica, en 1855. El fenómeno se estudia dentro del contexto globalizador que adquieren las migraciones desde los años decimonónicos y, en particular, se aborda integralmente desde dos aristas: la problemática del país expulsor y la del receptor. El mismo sirve a su vez de trabajo-homenaje para conmemorar el 155 aniversario de la llegada de los primeros inmigrantes chinos, pues se persigue que el lector logre comprender y visibilizar la compleja historia y destacada labor, como pioneros y proveedores de recursos importantes para el país. De esta manera, su llegada no solo se debe justificar por sus implicaciones demográficas, sino por lo que han aportado y colaborado en diferentes quehaceres de la vida nacional. En vista de ello, se pretende un análisis histórico aproximado, que permite abandonar visiones historiográficas parciales predominantes y mitos que se han tejido alrededor de su llegada.
