  • Resumen
    • For several years the term “commons” has been applied to many different goods, to the extent that the distinctive features of a new notion of common good must now be defined. To this end the essay runs through the main elements and the fundamental reasons which seem to be feeding this new notion: from Marciano’s res communes omnium to collective properties and “usi civici”; from the common heritage of humankind to global public goods; from indifference towards the legal ownership of goods to functional relations with fundamental rights and the free development of the human person; from the guarantee of collective use to the appeal to a spirit of sharing, to participation and responsibility of all for the management, care and maintenance of goods which are fundamental for the full development of the human person and our civilization.
