El fenómeno de las actitudes lingüísticas en hablantes de lenguas criollas se ha centrado en caracterizar las actitudes frente al criollo y al estándar. Dichos estudios no han abordado dos elementos centrales para la sociolingüística: primero, la relación entre actitud lingüística e identidad y segundo, la inserción de una tercera lengua en el contexto lingüístico de los hablantes. De este modo, en este artículo se presenta un proyecto de investigación en curso cuyo objetivo general es caracterizar las actitudes lingüísticas que tienen los hablantes de inglés criollo trinitario, inglés estándar y español y establecer la relación existente entre dichas actitudes y la construcción de su identidad. El énfasis está en la caracterización de la metodología para el estudio aquí planteado. Para ello, se desarrollan las siguientes etapas: (1) se establecen los postulados centrales que definen y caracterizan las actitudes lingüísticas y la identidad, (2) se describen las metodologías más utilizadas para el estudio de las actitudes lingüísticas, (3) se analizan los pro y los contra de dichas metodologías, y por último, (4) se plantea una metodología que permita abordar el objeto de investigación. De las etapas desarrolladas, se concluye que es necesario el uso de métodos cualitativos y cuantitativos para abordar la problemática propuesta.

The phenomenon of linguistic attitudes in speakers of creole languages has been centered in identifying characteristic attitudes regarding the creole and standard language. Such studies have not taken into account two central elements for sociolinguistics: first of all, the relation between linguistic attitude and identity, and secondly, the insertion of a third language in the linguistic context of the speakers. In this way, this article presents an currently ongoing research project whose main objective is to characterize the linguistic attitudes of creole English from Trinidad, standard English and Spanish, as well as to establish the existing relationship between these attitudes and the construction of identity. Emphasis is placed on the characterization of the methodology for the proposed study. In order to do this, the following stages will be developed: 1) the principal postulates will be identified and linguistic attitudes and identity will be defined, 2) the most used methodologies for studies of linguistic attitudes will be described, 3) the pros and cons of each methodology will be analyzed, and lastly, 4) an appropriate methodology will be proposed for this object of research. From the stages developed, it can be concluded that both quantitative and qualitative methods are necessary.
