Resumen de A Educação Bilingue de Alunos Surdos: da Legislação às Práticas

Rejecting the perspective that sees them as disabled, the deaf communities consider themselves linguistic minorities. Under that vision, they claim equal opportunities in education, through the recognition of sign languages as their first languages and as curricular areas.
Legislation in Portugal has accomplished these claims. Portuguese Sign Language has been recognized officially in 1997 and made a school subject through the Decrete-law 3/2008. The publishing of the Portuguese Sign Language Syllabus gave the necessary orientations to its implementation.
In this article, we aim to analyse the discourses of actors that participated in the elaboration of this syllabus and discourses of school professionals (coordinators of reference schools for the deaf and Portuguese Sign Language teachers). It´s our aim to understand the main principles of this document, as well as the way it was implemented in the contexts of practice.

Rejeitando a visão do défice, as comunidades surdas assumem-se como minorias linguísticas.
Nessa perspectiva, reivindicam uma igualdade de oportunidades na educação, através do reconhecimento das línguas gestuais enquanto suas primeiras línguas e enquanto áreas curriculares.
A legislação em Portugal têm vindo a traduzir estas reivindicações. A LGP foi reconhecida oficialmente em 1997 e transformada em disciplina através do Decreto-lei 3/2008. A publicação do Programa Curricular de LGP veio fornecer as orientações necessárias à sua implementação.
Neste artigo, pretende-se analisar os discursos de actores que colaboraram na elaboração deste programa curricular e os discursos de alguns práticos (coordenadores de escolas de referência para a educação bilingue de alunos surdos e profissionais que leccionam esta disciplina). Pretende-se deste modo perceber que princípios presidiram à redacção deste documento, assim como a forma como tem decorrido a sua aplicação nos contextos da prática.
