Afectación difusa del cerebelo en la edad pediátrica: hallazgos en resonancia magnética

    La afectación de la fosa posterior en los pacientes pediátricos es un hallazgo infrecuente que se puede producir de forma focal o difusa. Dentro de la afectación difusa la cerebelitis aguda es la primera entidad que sospechamos y la ataxia el síntoma más característico. Esta entidad, en ocasiones, es difícil de diagnosticar clínicamente por lo que las pruebas de imagen desempeñan un papel importante. Sin embargo existen otras entidades infrecuentes cuya apariencia clínica y radiológica puede ser similar a la cerebelitis aguda y que es importante tener en cuenta en el momento de realizar el diagnóstico diferencial. El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar 5 enfermedades con afectación difusa del cerebelo en la edad pediátrica y describir sus manifestaciones en la resonancia magnética.

    Posterior fossa involvement, which may be focal or diffuse, is an uncommon finding in paediatric patients. Acute cerebellitis is the first condition to be suspected among the diffuse forms, and ataxia is the most characteristic symptom. This condition is occasionally difficult to diagnose clinically, thus imaging tests play an important role in this. However, there are other rare conditions which may be clinically and radiologically similar to acute cerebellitis and which should be taken into account when making a differential diagnosis. The aim of this article is to present five diseases with diffuse brain involvement in paediatric patients and describe how they show up in MR imaging.
