    Elizabeth Eisenstein (1923�) es una historiadora norteamericana especializada en la Revolución Francesa y la Francia de principios del siglo XIX. Es famosa por sus escritos acerca de la transición del manuscrito a la cultura de la imprenta, así como del papel de esta en el gran cambio cultural de la civilización occidental. Eisenstein estudió en el Vassar College, donde recibió su diplomatura y en el Radcliffe College, donde obtuvo la licenciatura y el doctorado. Allí se formó con Crane Brinton. Enseñó en la American University desde 1959 hasta 1974, luego en la Universidad de Michigan, donde ejerció como parte del profesorado de historia del Alice Freeman Palmer. En 1979 fue la asesora interna del Center for the Book, en la Biblioteca del Congreso. Ha trabajado como colaboradora en el Humanities Research Center de la Universidad nacional de Australia y en el Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (Palo Alto).

    Elizabeth Eisenstein (1923�) is a North American historian specialising in the French Revolution and early 19th Century France. She is famous for her writings about the transition from manuscript to a print culture, and the role the print press played in the important cultural shift of western civilisation.

    Eisenstein studied in Vassar College, where she received her diploma, and in Radcliffe College, where she obtained her graduate and PhD degrees. There she studied with Crane Brinton. She taught in the American University between 1959 and 1974, then in the University of Michigan, where she was a member of the History staff of the Alice Freeman Palmer. In 1979 she was internal advisor at the Center for the Book, in the Congress Library. She has collaborated with the Humanities Research Center of the National University of Australia and in the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioural Sciences (Palo Alto).
