Ante la marginación social, económica e histórica de los sectores minoritarios dentro del Estado-Nación, surge la denominada Educación Popular como espacio educativo �alternativo� dirigido a campesinos e indígenas en zonas rurales en México con el propósito de alcanzar el desarrollo social del grupo. Comprender las dinámicas del empoderamiento conlleva indagar en las experiencias de las relaciones entre los promotores campesinost y las estudiantes. Este artículo se basa en entrevistas a promotores y estudiantes de la Escuela U Yits ka�an en el Estado de Yucatán, México; que busca contextualizar el empoderamiento desde el ámbito local.

Upon the social, economic and historical alienation of the minority sectors inside the State Nation, there arises the so called Popular Education as an �alternative� educational forum directed to groups of peasants and natives in rural zones in Mexico with the intention of reaching a quality of life for themselves. These systems apply organic farming as a strategy to achieve development and social empowerment of the group. To understand the empowerment of the group bears to investigate in the experiences of the relations between the �promoters� and the student and, in turn, study the experiences of the student in regards to his family under the work of organic farming. This article is based on interviews with the promoters and students of the subhead office of San Simón of the School U Yits ka�an in the state of Yucatan, Mexico; which looks to contextualize the empowerment from the local level.
