  • Resumen
    • The music collection of Lbrary and Archives Canada (hereafter LAC) have remained among the most consulted holdings of LAC since the Music Section was established in 1970 by its founding Chief, Dr. Helmut Kallmann. This article presents the course of its development with an emphasis on the consolidation of reference and other services into the new Resource Discovery Sector, which occurred with the merger of the former National Lbrary and the National Archives in 2004, on the ever-expanding holdings that further represent all facets of Canadian music, and on the expanding role of digitalization as a means of making accessible online research tools to help researchers discover the music holdings at LAC. Also briefly presented is the modernization effort currently underway at LAC that is redefining this national agency's vision of its future as a memory institution to better serve researchers from across Canada and around the world.
