Se presenta un caso de tromboembolismo pulmonar secundario a mixoma de aurícula derecha. El mixoma es un tumor cardíaco primario, es decir, tiene su origen en el tejido cardíaco.
Los tumores cardíacos primarios son poco frecuentes; entre ellos los mixomas son el tipo más común. Tienen predilección por el sexo femenino y la herramienta más útil para su diagnóstico es la ecocardiografía.
Alrededor del 75% de los mixomas ocurren en la aurícula izquierda del corazón y el resto se dan en la aurícula derecha. Los mixomas auriculares derechos en algunas ocasiones se asocian a estenosis tricuspídea y fibrilación auricular.
Las manifestaciones clínicas más frecuentes de estas neoformaciones incluyen síntomas constitucionales, derivados de fenómenos embólicos y de la obstrucción al flujo intracavitario. El tratamiento de esta entidad es quirúrgico.
