The aim of this essay is to interpret some frescoes depicting Jesus Christ wearing an earring in Byzantine monumental painting. Analyzing the painting of the Presentation of Jesus Christ in the Temple from the Church of Panagia tou Araka at Laghoudera village in Cyprus, the essay suggests that the earring reflects a custom and a parallel between Jesus Christ as the heir of the God-Father with the sons-successors of the great magnates. The members of the aristocracy were desperately seeking ways to propagandize a secure transition of their power and authority to their male heirs.
