Effectiveness of an intervention to reduce drugs in polymedicated patients

    • Objectives: Evaluate the effectiveness of a structured intervention through DADER Method on polymedicated patients of a Sanitary District to reduce the number of drugs prescribed. Method: Open randomized trial with control group. Selection criteria: Patients with five or more prescribed medications during more than six months. Subjects: 113 patients (control group: 57; intervention group: 56). Dependent variable: Average of drugs at the end of study. Average drug alterations before and after intervention. Results: Average medication at the end in control group 10.75 (TD 3.05), in intervention group 7.50 (TD 2.34). Control group: Medication at the beginning: 9.14. Medication at the end: 10.75. Variation +1.61 (<0;.0001). Intervention group: Medication at the beginning: 8.59. Medication at the end: 7.50. Variation-1.09 (<0;.0001). Conclusion: The result of this intervention in polymedicated patients through DADER Method produced a significant reduction in the number of used drugs
