En este artículo nos acercaremos a las características de las revueltas populares en una ciudad cortesana y, en concreto, veremos minuciosamente las que tuvieron lugar en Madrid en la segunda mitad del siglo XVII. Analizaremos sus causas, consecuencias y protagonistas; los motivos que movieron a los sediciosos y la actitud de las autoridades en las revueltas; dónde se desarrollaron y qué alcance tuvieron. Además, la conflictividad social en la ciudad es constante, y no solo se manifiesta a través de motines, sino de diferentes maneras que también atenderemos. La implantación de la corte genera una conflictividad específica, que se suma a la delicada coyuntura económica del XVII. Incluso la deriva de la monarquía tendrá su respuesta en las calles madrileñas. Todo esto hace que en el estudio de los motines de la segunda mitad del Seiscientos en la capital de la Monarquía hispana entren en juego elementos que trascienden el ámbito local y hacen que estos acontecimientos sean mucho más complejos, no tratándose solo de revueltas del hambre.

In this article, we will take a deep analysis to the characteristics of popular riots in a courtier city, specially the ones that took place in Madrid in the second half of the 17th century. We will look at their causes, consequences and the protagonists who were part of them. Another look at the reasons that impelled the rebels and the attitude of the authorities facing the riots, where they took place and what implications they had. Besides, the social conflicts were constant in the city. They were shown not only through the riots, but also in different ways we will deal with as well. The establishment of the Court generates a specific level of conflicts, added to the fragile economic situation in the 17th century. Even when the monarchy drifted, the conflicts will be shown up on the streets in Madrid. All this results in the study of the riots of the second half in the 17th century in the capital of the Spain. We will see elements coming into play that transcended the local area, making these events much more complex, not only regarding hunger riots.
