  Las características estéticas de un gráfico tienen una gran influencia en el modo en el que se percibe y comprende el sistema al cual representa. Sin embargo, hay representaciones de sistemas para los que solamente se conoce la topología de interconexión . Los algoritmos de colocación gráfica automática permiten, dada la estructura topológica de un grafo, asignar a cada uno de sus elementos las coordenadas en el espacio que, de acuerdo a determinado criterio, optimizan su representación. El artículo muestra dos de los algoritmos de colocación más utilizados en los gráficos que se utilizan habitualmente para describir software, y explica cómo se han adaptado para su utilización con redes de Petri.

  Aesthetic aspects in graphs have a large influence in the way the system they represent is perceived and understood. These characteristics are not available when dealing with graphs in which only topologycal information is known. Automatic layout algorithms allow, given the topologycal structure of the graph, to assign a coordinate in space for each of its elements that, following a certain criteria, opmitize the representation. The article shows two of the algoritms used frequently to represent graphs that represent software, and it explains how have they been adapted to be used with Petri nets.
