  • The article discusses the unevenness in progress worldwide with Latin American, North African and Asian countries having met their development goals while sub-Saharan Africa remains critically underdeveloped and impoverished. It notes that aid spending in nominal terms is projected to fall in the U.S. as Netherlands made moves to focus its aid to promote Dutch trade and investment. It suggests for developed nations to meet their obligations and replace obstructive self-interests with altruism
