    El derecho a la ciudad es un concepto que ha alcanzado cinco décadas de trayectoria, en las que se ha enriquecido mediante aportaciones de carácter teórico, la acción de movimientos sociales o a través de su legitimación como demanda en las agendas políticas nacionales e internacionales.

    Gracias a esta andadura y a su vinculación con contextos académicos y políticos, el hablar de derecho a la ciudad nos remite a cuestiones como espacio, ciudadanía, participación, seguridad, bienestar o pertenencia. En este sentido, y con el objetivo de (re)construir ciudades más justas e inclusivas para quienes las habitan, también el feminismo ha reflexionado sobre la cuestión, siendo consciente de las innumerables violaciones del derecho a la ciudad que sufren las mujeres. En este ensayo se abordarán los puntos fundamentales en torno a los que se articula la crítica feminista sobre el derecho a la ciudad, partiendo del proceso a través del que la relación entre mujeres y medio urbano se ha configurado como una temática de reflexión para el pensamiento feminista y como un elemento catalizador de movilizaciones y demandas.

    Todo ello permitirá alcanzar una comprensión más profunda acerca de las potencialidades de un análisis feminista sobre la ciudad.

    The concept of Right to the city has been greatly enriched throughout the course of the last five decades, due, in large part, to the contributions of critical theory, the involvement of social movements and, in turn, to the burgeoning importance of the concept in national and international political agendas. Thanks to this linking of the concept to the academic and political spheres, we have since been obliged to think about interrelated issues of integral importance, such as;

    space, citizenship, participation, security, well-being and belonging. In this sense, and with the objective of (re)constructing more equal and inclusive cities, feminism has contributed significantly to contemporary discussions which deal with the constraints on, and violations of, women´s right to the city. In this essay, I address the fundamental arguments in the feminist case concerning Right to the city, beginning with a discussion of the very process by which women´s relationship with the urban environment is shaped, a process which has formed the crux of a great deal of feminist theory, and which has acted as the catalyst of many protests and petitions. I hope, therein, to enhance the understanding of the potential of feminist analysis regarding urban space and city-life.
