  • Resumen
    • This contribution presents two unpublished paintings by Nicola van Houbraken. The artist, born of Dutch parents at Messina in 1660, died in Livorno in 1723. He first moved to Tuscany in 1674, to specialize in the painting of still-lifes. The author compares Houbraken's still-life with "Game, Fruit, Flowers and Other Objects" to another painting with a similar subject from Palazzo Pitti in Florence. The latter work, portraying "A Parrot, a Monkey, a Snake, Flowers and Other Objects", betrays an acquaintance with the paintings by the Stanchi brothers, who -like Houbraken- feature prominently in Medici collections.
