On the occasion of the 350th anniversary of Como Public Library, Piero Innocenti, former professor of librarianship at several Italian universities, offers a collection of quotations about public library by some important authors and personalities (namely, the Milan’s archbishop Carlo Maria Martini, the poetess Alda Merini, Victor Hugo, John Fante, Anaïs Nin, Guido Almansi, Georges Perec). The short texts here presented depict libraries not only as institutions of knowledge, but also as places where everyone can create his/her own education and identity.
