Resumen de Post Moderno e tradizione francescana. Per avviare una riflessione.

Giuseppe Buffon

  • It appears that one of the aspects of post-modernity that are most in evidence among Franciscans is the debate on the relationship between mission and identity. Modernity seems to have surrendered its place to post-modernity precisely when, under the impact of doubting the effectiveness and timeliness of mission, the transition took place from questions regarding strategies for the apostolate, to self-questioning about our own identity or originality, about our plan for living, about the purposes of the Order founded by St. Francis. As to this, greater clarity had indeed been demanded by Vatican II´s Decree, "Perfectae Caritatis", on the appropriate renewal of religious life in the Church. However, the Conciliar Decree, while calling for religious to deepen their understanding of their respective foundational charism, had not cast any doubt on the need for their presence to be meaning ful in terms of missionary prclamation. The Author, having analysed this transition from "mission to identity", proposes overcoming such dichotomy by revisiting the communicative key of the traditio fidei, on the basis of theological "observation" of the present time.
