Mysticism has made an important comeback nowadays. Thus is confirmed the prediction made by Rahner, who declared mysticism to be the safeguard for the Christianity of the future, in a secularised environment. This article frames this view historically and critically and, at the same time, looks forward to a renewed approach to mysticisim, starting from later developments that Rahner could not foresee, both on the other side of modernity and in trans-modernity.
