Los últimos treinta años del siglo XVIII y los primeros treinta del siglo XIX contemplaron el desarrollo del importante proceso judicial llevado a cabo ant el Tribunal Diocesano de Pamplona, principalmente, con motivo de la necesidad de reformar el entramado parroquial donostiarra.
En dicho proceso se dio una fuerte e intensa pugna entre los colectivos interesados en dicha reforma: el cabildo eclesiástico de los templos parroquiales unidos de Santa María y San Vicente, que gobernaban los de los templos de San Marcial de Alza y de San Pedro del Pasaje, por un lado, y el Ayuntamiento de San Sebastián, erigido en representante de los ciudadanos y también feligreses, por otro. Pero, además de estos dos colectivos principales, también hubo otros interesados: por una parte, un grupo de concejales, que salieron en defensa de los intereses del conjunto de feligreses, fundamentalmente los que vivían extramuros; por otra parte, también los sacerdotes y feligreses de Alza y el Pasaje de San Pedro pugnaron por obtener una atención parroquial adecuada.
La Real Cámara hubo de intervenir en variadas ocasiones para aplacar las ansias imperialistas de los cabildantes eclesiásticos, fundamentalmente, y todo ello en un entorno en que se vio de forma adecuada la impronta que dejó la Guerra de la Convención en la actividad parroquial de la ciudad.

The last thirty years of the eighteenth and the early nineteenth century beheld thirty development impotant trial conducted before the Diocesan Tribunal of Pamplona, mainly because of the need to reform the parish maze in San Sebastian.
The Royal House had to take part in various occasions in order to appease the incumbents of the united parish churches' imperialist cravings, basically, and all in an environment that was properly the imprint left by the War of the Convention in the city parish activity.
In this process there was a strong and intense struggle between the groups interested in the reform: the incumbents of the united parish churches of Santa Maria and San Vicente, who governed the churches of San Marical in Alza and San Pedro del Pasaje on one hand, and the city of San Sebastian, built in representing the citizens and parishioners, on the other. But in addition to these two main groups, there were other interested parties: on the one hand, a group of councilors, who came to the defense of the interests of all parishioners, mainly those living outside the walls, on the other hand, also the priests and parishioners of Alza and Pasaje San Pedro, who struggled to get a proper parish attention.

XVIII. mendeko azkeneko hogeita hamar urteek eta XIX. mendeko lehenengo hogeita hamar urteek Iruñeko Elizbarrutiko Auzitegiaren aurrean burututako prozesu garrantzitsuaren garapena begietsi zuten; izan ere, Donostiako parrokien egitura erreformatzeko beharrean baitzegoen.
Aipatutako prozesuan erreforma horretan interesaturik zeuden kolektiboen artean lehia handi eta bizia gertatu zen: Santa María eta San Vicente-ren loturik zeuden templuen elizaren kabildoa. Altzako San Martzial eta Pasai San Pedrokoa gobernatzen zituena, alde batetik, eta Donostiako Udala, hiritarren eta eliztarren izenean ardura hartu zuena, beste aldetik. Baina, kolektibo nagusi hauetaz gain, beste interesaturik ere bazeuden: Donostiako zinegotzien talde bat, eliztarren interesen alde, batez ere harresiz kanpotik bizi zirenak agertu zena, alde batetik, eta Altzan eta Pasai San Pedron bizi ziren eliztar eta apaizak parroki-ardura egokia lortzeko lehia egin zutena, beste alde batetik.
