    The city of Meknes is identified mainly with a single monument: the gate of Bab Mansur al-,Ilj, which was built by Mawlay Isma,il and then restored and decorated by his son, Mawlay ,Abd Allah. This article aims to retrace, in their respective historical contexts, the two key stages of the building of this gate, dwelling upon both its architectural presentation and its epigraphic description. It provides a complete deciphering of the engraving found on the upper part of the gate�s exterior facade, followed by a new translation, as well as illustrations

    La ville de Meknès s�identifie presque à un seul monument : la porte de Bab Man?ur al-?Ilg qui fut édifiée par Mawlay Isma?il puis rénovée et orneée par son fils Mawlay ?Abd Allah. Cet article s�emploie à retracer, dans leurs contextes historiques respectifs, les deux étapes-clés de la construction de cette porte, en s�attardant aussi bien sur sa présentation architecturale que sur sa description épigraphique. Il propose le déchiffrement intégral de l�inscription située sur la partie supérieure de sa facade extérieure, et par suite une nouvelle traduction, le tout illustré avec des planches
