Calcareous micropaleontology of the Neogene of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh

    • The calcareous microfauna and nannoplankton of a sandstone bed in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh has been studied. Seventeen species of ostracod belonging to 14 genera were found, of which 6 new species, Leguminocythereis kemperi, Chrysocythere minuta, Bensonocythere lehmanni, Neomonoceratina pulchra, Neocytheretta bengalensis and Monoceratina rejuensis, are described. Four species of nannoplakton belonging to 3 genera are described for the first time from Bangladesh. In addition, 41 species of calcareous foraminifera belonging to 22 genera are also described briefly, of which one is a new species: Asterorotalia dissimilis. The environment of deposition in the basin was warm tropical to subtropical, shallow marine having good interconnections with the adjoining Mid Neogene open seas.
