El artículo explora aquellos aspectos que hacen del modelo universitario norteamericano el más exitoso del mundo. A pesar de las diferencias culturales que separan España de Estados Unidos, el autor sugiere que hay una serie de aspectos en los que cualquier reforma del modelo universitario español debería tener en cuenta los del modelo norteamericano. Entre ellos, una mejora de la experiencia vital que supone el paso por la universidad, la variedad de centros y misiones, y la existencia de un auténtico mercado de universidades, profesores y alumnos.

The article explores those aspects that make the North American University model the most successful of the world. Despite the cultural differences between Spain and the United States, the author suggests that there are a series of characteristics that any reform of the Spanish university model should take into account and that are present in the model of the United States. Among others, an improvement of the university experience as a whole, the variety of centers and missions, and the existence of a true market for universities, teachers and students.
