    Durante más de quinientos años, el agua de la Fuente del Ojo, gestionada por el Heredamiento del Ojo, ha servido para el abastecimiento de personas y ganados, para usos domésticos e industriales, conventuales, lúdicos y recreativos, y para riego en el núcleo urbano de Cieza y en su entorno de la margen izquierda del río Segura. La sobrexplotación del acuífero Ascoy-Sopalmo, en el último tercio del siglo XX, ocasionó una disminución de caudales en este alumbramiento de aguas y finalmente la seca de la Fuente del Ojo. Su aprovechamiento integral nos ha dejado un patrimonio inmaterial como las ordenanzas y reglamentos, las conversaciones del lavadero o el espíritu de los baños que definen una cultura popular. También un cuantioso patrimonio hidráulico material como canalizaciones, partidores, abrevaderos, balsas, molino, lavadero, etc., disperso en el espacio del regadío histórico tradicional de Cieza, actualmente en grave peligro de desaparición.

    For over 500 years, the water of the spring �Fuente del Ojo�, managed by the Heredamiento (guild of irrigation), has been used for drinking purposes both for people and forlivestock, for household and industrial use, for the monasteries, for leisure and, finally,for irrigating the orchards on the left bank of the river Segura and those within the townof Cieza.

    Overexploitation of the Ascoy-Sopalmo aquifer, in the last third of the 20th century, caused a decrease in the volume of (flow in) this spring and finally, its drying out. Its integral exploitation has left us an intangible heritage such as rules and ordinances, the peoples� gossip at the common washing site, the spirit of the baths� that characterize a popular culture. We have also kept a hydraulic heritage such as channelling, water splits, basins, troughs, bathing pools, a mill, a washing site, etc, which were scattered in the traditional and historical irrigation system, in great danger of being lost forever
