The stomach contents of a Black Woodpecker found dead in Monasterio de Hermo (Asturias, NW Spain) on 07.06.86 were analysed. This bird had fed on ants of the genera Camponotus and Lasius (99% of prey was ants), Coleoptera (adults and larvae) and, in lesser number, Miriapoda and Dermaptera. The total percentage of ants was similar to those found in other studies but the proportion of each ant genus differs with site, season and methodology.
