The studied area comprises 35 ha along two kilometres of coast, composed mainly of salt marshes covered in plants of the genus Arthrocnemum. Most censuses were dominated by a single species (dominance, ff47%; range: 37%- 57%). Wader abundance increased steadily from late March and early April, with a maximum concentration in the middle of April (24.6 birds/km); this level was maintained unti1 late May, when numbers decreased markedly. The Kentish Plover was the most regular species at the site (relative abundance: 7.5 +- 14, 25 birdsl km; i?: 2.94 birds/km), but curiously the highest relative abundance was for the Redshank [i?: 4.69 birds/km).
