  • According to the published ageing criteria, adult male Blackcaps have the crown completely black, with brown tips present in firstyear birds only. This paper reports the retrap on 05.03.92 of on adult male Blackcap ringed five years beforehand, and so of Euring code 73, but showing the black crown extensively marked brown. This record indicates the necessity to use this ageing criterion with caution and preferably to use others such as iris colour and, especially, moult features.
