Decoy traps allow the capture of large numbers of birds in a short period of time with relatively little effort. However, a multifactorial analysis of capture probabilities according to capture method (baited feeder vs. Decoy trop), sex, age, residence status, and body condition showed that a trapping bios occurred among Siskins: newly ringed birds (;. E. Transients) and birds with low body condition were caught in decoy traps in greater numbers than in baited traps. A four-way ANOVA on the variation of body condition showed this to be especially applicable to newly ringed yearling birds. Jhese birds seem to be more susceptible to being attracted by decoys because of their double inexperience (as yearlings and transients). Jhe results show that bird ringers need to be cautious when interpreting their results obtained frorn trapping with decoys, especially when comparing this rnethod with other bird trapping techniques. Stratification of the data by classes (e. G. Age, residence), appropriate choice of analyiical models and planning the study in advance are all needed in order to minimize the irnpact of br'a ses.
