Resumen de Polysemie in einem zweisprachigen Wörterbuch

Dmitrij Dobrovol'skij, Ärtem Sarandin

  • In this paper we discuss some lexicographically relevant aspects of polysemy. Using empirical data drawn from the "New Comprehensive German-Russian Dictionary", a large-scale lexicographic project currently underway. This dictionary is partly corpus-based using data from the AAC. Various types of cross-linguistic description of polysemy are exemplified by entries from this dictionary. For instance, certain semantic classes develop regular polysemy, i.e. their members reveal parallel sets of meanings. Often the paradigms of regular polysemy do not coincide in L1 and L2. For exemplifying cases of this kind, verbs of motion are considered in detail. In German they develop quasi-transitive readings (cf. einen Rekord laufen, einen Umweg gehen). The Russian equivalents of such verbs do not participate in transitive constructions. Bilingual dictionaries must reflect realities like this in a systematic way. The last section of the paper discusses the semantic structure of particles, which is language specific to a high degree.
