  • Within the realm of collocations, a highly neglected category in terms of lexicographic material available is the category ofverbal collocations. With the exception of a few monolingual general collocational dictionaries and even fewer bilingual similar dictionaries, there is only one specific bilingual dictionary of verbal collocations, the Russian-English Dictionary of Verbal Collocations [Benson & Benson 1993]. As it is highly desirable that this type of dictionary exists for every pair of languages, we have engaged in compiling a bi-directional English-Portuguese dictionary of verbal collocations in Brazil. The process of compilation and the problems arising there of are briefly discussed in this paper.
