The aim of this paper is to highlight the principal characteristics which divide the existential reading and the partitive reading of indefinite determiners. On the one hand, this explanation will allow us to see more clearly what this opposition consists of. On the other hand, it will offer a new solution to the difficulty that the distribution of indefinite SN with the predicates causes.
Meanwhile, we'll undertake not only the problem of quantitative determination, but also those of the indefinites' specificity, of the genericity, of taxonomies and types of predicates.
