The article examines research on ethics conducted by David T. Welsh and Lisa D. Ordóñez in relationship to goal setting in personnel management. A research exercise conducted by the two which found that participants in a mathematics test given the hardest problems were 84 percent likelier to cheat is discussed as an indication that continuous setting of high goals can negatively affect organizational performance.
