    En la sociedad tradicional africana, el cuento aparece como una de las herramientas más usadas para la formación a la vida, no solo de los niños, sino de la comunidad entera. Su potencial educativo es innegable, pues dispone de ingentes recursos para moldear el comportamiento social de los asistentes, pacificando así la convivencia. Pero también, es sobre todo un material seguro para educar en el buen uso oral de la lengua, y concretamente en el habla en público. No obstante, desde hace muchas décadas, este valioso instrumento ha sido relegado a un segundo plano en las clases de lengua del sistema educativo moderno. Por ello, el autor de este trabajo, después de recordar dicho valor educativo y cultural del mencionado género, propone algunas pistas para su explotación didáctica en el aula de clase moderna, en vistas a garantizar el saber � ser del alumnado por una parte, y mejorar la competencia comunicativa oral de los mismos por otra.

    In traditional African societies, tales seem to be one of the most used tools in the life learning process, not only for children but for the whole community. Their educational potential is undeniable, because it has huge resources to shape the social behaviour of participants, thereby creating peace and coexistence. But also, they are safe materials for training in the proper use of oral language, notably when it comes to public speaking. However, for many decades, these valuable tools have been sidelined in the modern educational system. Therefore, the author of this paper, after 2 having recalled the educational and cultural values of that genre, offers some indications for their didactic exploitation in modern classrooms, in order to ensure the well-being of students on the one hand, and enhance oral communicative competence on the other hand.
